How we calculate this

Optimized routing saves you in two places: the fuel you don’t burn and the driving hours you don’t pay for. Everything below is arithmetic on the four numbers you entered, only the two efficiency rates come from us.

The assumptions we use

The formulas

1. Deliveries a month deliveries per day × 30 delivery days
2. Miles you stop driving deliveries a month × 7 miles × 20%
3. Fuel saved miles saved ÷ 20 MPG × your fuel price
4. Driving hours you stop paying for deliveries a month × (11 min ÷ 60) × 30%
5. Labor saved hours saved × your hourly wage
6. Your total (fuel saved + labor saved) × 12 = a year
7. Added capacity deliveries per day × 30% = stops you can add on the same road time

Where the 20% and 30% come from, and what they aren’t

Multi-stop route optimization removes distance and drive time at different rates, so we model them separately: 20% less distance, which is where the fuel saving comes from, and 30% less drive time, which is where the labor saving and the added capacity come from. Both are published industry benchmarks for multi-stop routing, not measurements of your routes and not measurements of any one Zippykind account, nothing here is a quote. Dense urban routes with tight time windows tend to beat these figures; long rural runs with few stops per mile tend not to.
